Serengeti Bytes Moves into Rwanda, Strengthening East Africa’s Creative and Digital Value Chain

Serengeti Bytes, one of Tanzania’s most dynamic communications and technology firms, has officially expanded to Rwanda — marking a strategic move in its mission to build Africa’s digital future. Operating from Norrsken Kigali House, the company plans to introduce a range of technology solutions including a Super App, digital public transport systems, and verification tools for manufacturers and consumers, alongside creative economy platforms like The Tanzania Digital Awards and The Tanzania Changemakers Magazine.

Serengeti Bytes, a communications and technology firm founded in Tanzania, has expanded operations to Rwanda, a strategic move that reinforces its ambition to become one of Africa’s leading players in the digital and creative economy.

The expansion positions Serengeti Bytes within Rwanda’s rapidly growing innovation ecosystem, anchoring its presence at Norrsken Kigali House in Nyarugenge, a hub that attracts startups, investors, and impact-driven enterprises shaping the region’s next economic frontier.

From an economic standpoint, this move represents more than business growth. It signals cross-border knowledge transfer, digital trade expansion, and the rise of East Africa as a connected innovation corridor.

Kennedy Mmari, Founder and CEO, described the move as a deliberate alignment with Rwanda’s institutionalised innovation culture and its Vision 2050 blueprint for a knowledge-driven economy.

“Rwanda offers an environment where innovation is not a buzzword but an economic policy. Establishing our base here reflects our belief that Africa’s economic transformation will come from its own creative and technological ingenuity,” he said.

Co-founder and COO Michael Mallya added that the Kigali office will function as Serengeti Bytes’ continental springboard.

“Rwanda provides the infrastructure, mindset, and policy environment that supports bold experimentation. Our expansion here is about building the Africa we want, competitive, interconnected, and digitally self-reliant,” he noted.

Serengeti Bytes has built a strong reputation across East Africa for advancing the creative economy through technology-driven communication solutions. Its projects, including The Tanzania Digital Awards and The Tanzania Changemakers Magazine, have become platforms for recognizing innovation and impact within Africa’s growing digital sector. Beyond communication, the company is also developing a range of technology solutions designed to drive Africa’s digital transformation, including a Super App that integrates ride-hailing, market place, cargo, rental homes, and on-demand artisanal services. Other apps includes a digital public transport solution through ride-sharing, a product verification platform connecting manufacturers and consumers, educational mobile games for children, a mobile app tailored for content creators, and a social networking app designed to connect neighbors within local communities.

Economically, the company’s Rwanda entry complements the country’s positioning as an East African hub for technology, impact investment, and startup incubation. By situating at Norrsken, Serengeti Bytes aligns itself with Rwanda’s broader ambition of becoming a regional center for digital transformation and human capital development.

As Mmari emphasized, “This is not just a corporate expansion, it’s an investment in Africa’s intellectual economy. Our goal is to make African creativity and technology global economic assets, not footnotes.”
